Conservatories from Academy Windows

Base and brickwork

The base construction is similar to brick built extensions which ensures long term stability for your conservatory. Typically a trench footing is used with minimum size 450mm by 450mm. The sub soil is then removed to allow a 100mm hard core layer which is covered by a damp proof membrane. An optional jablite insulation layer can be installed at this stage to reflect heat back into the conservatory. Finally a 100mm concrete and 75mm floor screed is added. Although building control through the local planning department is not required the specification of the base works would conform to their regulations.

Cavity brickwork

You choose the height of the brickwork to suit your individual design, all options incorporate a 50mm cavity filled with rockwool slab insulation. External finish options include face brick finish to best match existing house bricks, standard or decorative render, special brick or stone designs. Internal finishes can be face brick, with a choice of colour or plaster finish ready for you to paint. All of the building works are carried out by our own skilled teams and are covered by our comprehensive 10 year insurance backed guarantee.

Roof glazing

Most roofs are glazed using polycarbonate sheets, these come in a clear, opal or bronze finish. We only use the best available which is 35mm multi chamber sheets adding in a solar control layer which helps to keep things cool in the summer and retain the heat in the winter. The other option is to fit 28mm glass sealed units. Starting from standard double glazed units upon which you can add a low e-coating to improve the efficiency. Further upgrade options include anti sun glass (grey or blue finish), solar active with self cleaning properties (blue or neutral finish) or argon gas filling to any option to improve the glass efficiency even further.

Roof systems

The Global roofing systems we use are the most popular system fitted in the country. British standards recognise the requirement to ensure build quality to withstand snow and strong winds. Our roofs are constructed using heavy duty aluminium profiles, capped with uPVC trims to form strong and durable finishes. There are a number of colour options to match the window frames you choose. The roofing systems we use are manufactured using the same profile detail as the window and door frames, ensuring everything matches from the inside.
